Outriggerpads is launching a new 200 tonne capacity spreader plate for mobile cranes and other heavy plant equipment.
Measuring 1.5m x 1.5m, they are manufactured from high density polyethylene (HDPE), making them highly durable. This material is resistant to water, oil and chemicals – and unlike metal or wooden spreader plates, there’s no risk of corrosion or splintering. Outriggerpads is the first UK company to stock polyethylene pads of this size.
The unique design of the 1500x1500x100 spreader plates incorporates four metal bars to facilitate lifting hooks. Weighing 214kg each, they are considerably lighter than the equivalent sized steel pads, but have a greater load bearing capability.
Charles Grizzle, Business Development Executive for Outriggerpads, said: “Initially we only produced 1.5m pads for crane customers on request, which enabled us to test the market.
“The same sized steel mat is more than double the weight of our pad, yet has a much lower load capacity compared to our 200 tonnes. Ultimately the steel pads are difficult to manoeuvre and store due to their sheer size and weight.
“Demand has quickly grown as crane operators recognise the benefits of using our lighter and more durable spreader plates. We are now moving into full production of these pads to ensure deliveries times are kept to a minimum.
